100 Colorado Landscapes #5 Through #8

100 Colorado Landscapes #5 Through #8

A brief description of the natural places worth seeing in Colorful Colorado.

#5 Rocky Mountain National Park - With over 4 million visitors each year this national park has been protected since 1915. This Mountainous, Alpine lake park reaches over the Continental Divide and encompasses 265,461 acres not including the 1/4 million acres of national forest that surround the park.

#6 Maroon Bells Wilderness Area - Maroon Bells is one of five areas designated by the Wilderness Act of 1964. Located within the Elk Mountains and spans the White River and Gunnison National Forests. The Wilderness area is major access point for backpackers and hikers alike.

#7 Storm King Peak is part the Grenadier Range and located in the largest wilderness area in Colorado the Weminuche Wilderness. This peak is just shy of 14 thousand feet and isn’t easiest to access but it is worth the solitude.

#8 Monarch Pass The pass at the southern end of the Sawatch Range about 25 miles west of the town of Salida. I have ridden my motorcycle over this pass on US Highway 50 a couple of years ago on my way back from Moab, Utah. It is a grand beautiful wide pass covered in snow with a picture postcard around every bend. Don’t miss an opportunity to ride the 50 through the mountains.
